The Swiss Malaria Group welcomes a new members as of 2025

Basel, Switzerland – Spring 2025 – The Swiss Malaria Group (SMG), a key player in the global fight against malaria, is pleased to welcome Vestergaard as a new member in 2025. This development reflects our commitment to eradicating malaria through innovative and collaborative efforts.

Vestergaard, is a dynamic social enterprise dedicated to innovation in material science. With its PermaNet® insecticide-treated bed nets Vestergaard is a mainstay of global malaria elimination programmes. The company has a strong presence in Africa, with employees located across the Sub-Saharan region and facilities including a vector control research laboratory in Ghana established in partnership with the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

One out of three mosquito nets sold is a PermaNet® insecticide-treated bed net. “Vestergaard is a globally recognized leader in producing long-lasting insecticidal nets, which are vital to malaria control programs,” said Manuel Hetzel, president of the Swiss Malaria Group. “Their mosquito nets protect millions of children, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, from mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria.” Since 2000, PermaNet LLINs have contributed to the overall reduction of global malaria cases by 12% and deaths by 45 % (Gleave et al., 2021).
