RTS,S: most advanced candidate for a malaria vaccine. Swiss TPH helped coordinate a large-scale clinical trail involving more than 16,000 children. Swiss TPH also calculated the long-term impact and cost-effectiveness of RTS,S in 43 African countries.

Project 1
Support of health system strengthening through the implementation of an electronic job aid, leDA-REC, to guide primary health workers on the use of Integrated Management of childhood Illness (IMCI) protocol. This improves significantly access of under-5 children in underserved rural settings to malaria case management (diagnosis, treatment and referral of severe cases).

leDA-REC is in use in more than 1221 primary health care facilities, used by 4,800 health care workers --> more than 5.4 mio consultations have been done so far with this tool (2.6 mio children)

Project 2
In collaboration with WHO GMP, IeDA data is being analyzed to understand epidemiological trends of malaria incidence, and influencing factors, in under 5 children in Burkina Faso.
Project 3
With the support from BMGF, IeDA is expanded to antenatal and postnatal care consultations as well as to any malaria infected adult to improve surveillance and malaria case management and prevention interventions.
